The close fit and clever closure system were impressive but played second fiddle to the way the Mercury TF Women functioned for skiing and for skinning. One of the very best of the designs intending to do both, was the verdict. The stance was neutral and allowed for smooth skiing movements. The fore-aft support was all there even when our testers pounded on it. The flex feel was firm on the shin but not uncomfortably so for most. Side-to-side, the Mercury was called "light and quick, with plenty of edge power." The touring range-of-motion is at the very top of its class, as the unhinged cabrio maximizes cuff range both backward and forward. The flex-stiffening booster tongue can be removed for an even easier, lighter touring set-up. The girls thought this so-called wide fit more like a snug medium width in their typical test size. That generated a few bony bit contact complaints.
