Koznick Wins Second Slalom in Italy

Bormio, Italy Mar. 19--Kristina Koznick, showing she's figured outhow to deal with the new-this-season short skis, nailed the bottom ofher second SL run Sunday at World Cup Finals and held off Anja Paersonof Sweden for her second victory in a row, the fourth of her career.

Koznick, who also edged Paerson 10 days earlier on the other side ofnorthern Italy (March 10 in Sestriere), was second in the first run, .08behind. She finished with a two-run time of 1:26.23 while Paerson, whocouldn't match Koznick's final run, was timed in 1:26.36. Third placewent to Elisabetta Biavaschi of Italy in 1:26.38. Sarah Schleper (Vail,CO), the only other U.S. skier in the race, was 22nd in 1:29.32.

"It's too bad the season is over after two straight wins, but I'll beback next year," said Koznick, who added giant slalom racing to herWorld Cup schedule this winter.

"I learned a lot about myself this week, to be patient....It's been atough year for me, but if there's been a year to struggle, this is it -with no World Championships, no Olympics."

Koznick and Schleper fly home Monday and will have a few days off thisweek before heading to the Chevy Truck U.S. Alpine Championships March24-29 in Jackson Hole, Wyo.
