PANORAMA, B.C. (USST News Release - Nov. 25) - U.S. slalom ace Resi Stiegler (Jackson Hole, WY) finished ninth Sunday to again lead U.S. women in an Audi FIS Alpine World Cup slalom. She also dramatically improved her World Cup standing overall for other disciplines.

World Cup slalom champion Marlies Schild of Austria won her second straight SL in 1:39.95. Czech Sarska Zahrobska, the slalom world champion, was runner-up in 1:40.63. Stiegler, who was fourth in a snowy slalom (won by Schild) earlier this month in Austria, finished in 1:41.68. Julia Mancuso (Olympic Valley, CA) was 16th and Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO) 29th.

"Resi was just crushing it coming through the top section," Coach Chris Knight said, "but she backed off a bit at the bottom. She wanted to make sure she finished. This gives her 400 points over the last 12 months (in the World Cup Start List), which is excellent, and it will move her up to 16th for starts in the giant slaloms. It's a huge opportunity for her."

He added, "Resi's been on the wrong side of the weather in a couple of races, but she's hung in there. She had wind gusts in Reiteralm in that first slalom and the snow, and today it was flat light until just after she went. Still, she crushed it. She's skiing with good confidence and that's great for her."

The next women's World Cup races are their first speed events of the season. They compete Saturday in downhill and Sunday in super G at Lake Louise in the Canadian Rockies. Then they head to Colorado for the annual Audi Aspen Winternational Dec. 7-9 - a downhill, super G and slalom.
