Developed in the Thirties and evolving ever since, the ATS curriculum began with immigrating Swiss, Austrian and French instructors, but American ingenuity soon took over. The ATS "Centerline" method blends turning, edging and pressuring skills to build competent, versatile skiers. There are as many as 10 class levels in ATS, which are consistent nationwide. If you take a Level 6 lesson in Stowe, Vt., the following week you can request a Level 7 at Steamboat, Colo., and pick up exactly where you left off.
