Continental Comfort 1203

It may look venerable, but this 15-year-old hotel is actually a cluster of antique chalets repositioned to resemble a typical Haute Savoie village. Hoteliers Jocelyne and Jean-Louis Sibuet spent five years combing the countryside for old farmhouses. They reconstructed them on the outskirts of Megeve, a ski town long known as a rustic jet-set retreat. The 72 rooms boast honey-colored pine walls, beamed ceilings and wide-plank pine floors that form a stage for antique canopied beds, shepherd's tables and vintage Savoyard pottery. The bathrooms, however, are blessedly modern. After a free shuttle back from the lifts, you can recover in the full health spa, hot tub, sauna or indoor swimming pool, then fill up on fondue in the hotel's specialty cheese restaurant. Doubles start at about $450, including breakfast and dinner.
