Boulder, CO, Sept. 13--Autumn has begun to close in on the alpine regions of the country displaying a bountiful feast of colors and near-winter smells. Ski resorts across the country celebrate the season's turn and their European roots with Oktoberfest this September and October.

Oktoberfest began on October 12, 1810 in celebration of the marriage between Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Sax-Hildburghausen. Now in 2000 this festive occasion is honored at ski resorts in the New World with German inspired foods, entertainment, and, of course, steins of beer.

Check out our best picks for Oktoberfest this fall and head to the mountains with your lederhosen to soak up the festivities and turning of the leaves.
