Shades Cafe

Shades is a not-so-hidden treasure of Jackson Hole. Popular with the locals, the small and affordable breakfast, lunch, and sometimes dinner spot right off the main square is rapidly growing in popularity. Stop by in the morning for a house-made pastry and a cup of some of the best coffee around—a house brew that’s not too weak, but not too overwhelming—while you slowly wake up in the cozy log cabin and edgy/artistic atmosphere. On Saturday mornings, there is live folk music to get your weekend started. If cereal is your thing on these lazy mornings, try their Shades Grain, a hot cereal made of brown and wild rice with dried cherries, apricots, and cranberries served with milk, brown sugar, and lemon. If eggs are more your style, the eggs benedict with avocado and tomato is especially delicious. Inside seating is limited during the colder months, but if you swing through during the summer, make sure to grab a table on their patio. Also during the summer, Shades serves up an amazing dinner featuring Indian, Greek, and Ethiopian appetizers and entrees. BYOB to make a great western summer night out of it.
