Vail, CO Sept. 27--Vail will have its' Two Elk Lodge this winter. Construction to rebuild the mountain-top lodge that was devastated by arson last October is in its final stages and on schedule to open December 24.
On July 29, construction crews completed the roof and the external frame continuing their efforts to hit the projected Christmas Eve deadline.
"The crews are about 70 to 80 percent done on the exterior and about 60 percent done on the interior," reported Kristin Yantis of Vail Resorts. "The construction is right on schedule for the Christmas Eve opening."
The new lodge will be 4,000 square feet larger than the original, pushing the seating capacity from 720 people to 914 people. The extra square footage will allow for more space for food preparation and additional facilities for the physically challenged.
For years, the Two Elk Lodge has been one of Vail's flagship restaurants and most beautiful buildings. Skiers stopped by for sun, rest and a quick, cafeteria-style lunch with a gourmet feel. The new Two Elk Lodge figures to be a new and improved version of the original.
