Park City, UT Feb. 10--Teenager Julia Mancuso (Tahoe City, CA),ignoring the possibility of playing it safe to ensure she finished, tookcharge on the first run Thursday to win a Super Series giant slalom, neatly wrapping up the women's $100,000 Super Series overall and GStitles at Park City Mountain Resort.

"I had to go for it," she said after finishing with a two-run time of1:58.77, more than a half-second ahead of Canadian Julie Langevin(1:59.31). In third place was Italian Patrizia Auer with Mancuso's oldersister, April, in fourth place as U.S. skiers took five of first 10places. Britt Janyk, a Canadian who had the only mathematical chance tocatch Mancuso in the GS standings, fell on the first run.

She ignored changing weather conditions, which created tough visibilityand soft snow, for the victory. "It was really rough. The weatherchanged so much - the fog rolled in, then it got very moist...the snowwas slushy," she said.

"I wasn't focusing on the overall title, so that's kinda cool, too,"the winner said. "But I still have a lot of work to do on my GS."

The Super Series, the U.S. races within the NorAm Cup series of racesin North America, is the highest level of non-World Cup racing in thiscountry.
