KILLINGTON, VT Feb. 11, 2004 - Killington Resort has announced the winners of their annual NSAA "HEADS UP" National Safety Awareness Week poster contest. Fourth and fifth graders in Killington's Junior Program participated in the event Jan. 17-23.

"We were very impressed with this year's posters," said Anne Snyder, of the Killington human resource department. "The contest acts as a fun and creative way to focus on the importance of safety awareness for skiers and snowboarders."

Michael Drexel of Castleton Elementary School won the Best Overall Safety Message, and the runner-up was William Gilbert also from Castleton Elementary School. Molly Koch from Sherburne Elementary School won the Most Creative Design category. The runner-up was Lauren Graziano from Castleton Elementary School.

Each winner received his or her choice of a ski or snowboard package. The runners-up were awarded a Boeri helmet.

The mission of National Safety Awareness Week is to support classroom curriculum related to sports, health and safety, and to give students a chance to have fun and be creative while learning about slope safety awareness. Posters had to reflect one of the seven points of "Your Responsibility Code."

The winners and runners-up were selected from a field of about 100 entries and they will go on to compete in the NSAA national competition.
