Big Powderhorn has specialized in families for 40 years, offering 11 lodging options and room for 2000 guests. Its big 622-foot vertical, 27-trail mountain has something for everyone, from eye-opening steeps to airplane runway-wide cruises, all made better by an annual 200 inches of Lake Superior snow. Families traditionally head to the Caribou Learning Center. "Great place to take kids and teach them to ski at a reasonable cost, a very family oriented atmosphere," a readers says.

The Latest

New intermediate trail, Slingshot, along chairlift 8. A third mountainside Wine Hut has been added, complete with fireplace and outdoor grill, which visitors can reserve for daytime get-togethers.

The Deal
