Art of Winter Work

If you’ve ever caught yourself lusting for your chairlift-buddy’s skis’ crazy top sheet or considered buying boards just for their sweet design, there’s good news. The Art of Winter show is in Denver for a second year. The invention of genius-germination project Something Independent, Art of Winter is a celebration of snow.

The exhibition was launched last year to coincide with the SIA Snow Show. It’s a display of the inspired efforts made possible by the Something Independent initiative, which formed to help the local Colorado snow industry succeed. Art of Winter will feature works created on recycled skis and boards from over 20 Colorado artists from Jan. 16-Feb. 6 outdoors in Larimer Square.

There will also be a gallery of fresh designs from independently-owned Colorado ski & board companies like Liberty Skis, Icelantic, and Unity Snowboards at Row 14 Bistro & Wine Bar from Jan. 20-Feb. 6, screenings of ski films by local studios including Level 1 and Matchstick Productions on Thursdays at 6 p.m. on the Denver Theatre District and 16th St. Mall LED screens, not to mention a wild cardboard gondola installation by Sam Mobley in the Colorado Convention Center during the SIA Snow Show Jan. 23-30.

Go see Art of Winter in person, and browse the virtual exhibit on Facebook, and you could help an artist win an awesome ski trip. We’ve partnered with Art of Winter to send the artist whose creation gets the most “likes” to Park City to ski on the pristine white slopes of Deer Valley. If you really like what you see, there’s also the opportunity to bid on a cool piece in the online auction at artofwinter.co.
