Telluride Ski Area has signed on to NSAA's adoption of a Climate Change Policy that addresses the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions through several resort initiatives including lighting retrofits, purchasing wind power, using alternative fuels and promoting mass transit and carpooling. Telluride was also a supporter last year's McCain/Lieberman Climate Stewardship Act, a bi-partisan bill that would cut heat-trapping pollution from major U.S. sources, including electric utilities, major industrial and commercial entities, and refiners of transportation fuels, which together account for nearly 80% of U.S. carbon emissions. Along with other prizes, Telluride is offering a 2004/2005 ski pass to one lucky participant in the event, "Passport to Environmental Awareness". Stations will be set-up around the mountain at places of environmental interest, and educators will be present at stations to explain the details of each conservation effort. As the skier visits each station, their "passport" will be stamped. All skiers with a fully-stamped passport can enter into a drawing to be held at the end of the day for a season ski pass, golf passes, and more.

This year's stations will offer information on: avalanche forecasting and cloud seeding, carbon measurement in Prospect Basin fens, energy-efficient lighting, lynx and river otter wildlife reintroduction programs, solar and wind energy, beetle-killed trees and blowdowns, and bio-diesel. Passports can be picked up that morning at all Telski ticket selling locations or at the Plaza Nature Center in Mountain Village. Instructions for the event and directions to stations will be printed on the passport. Skiers must make it around to all six stations between 10 am and 1 pm and fully stamped passports should be returned to raffle station at Goronno Ranch restaurant by 2:00. Drawings will begin around 3 pm, and you must be present to win prizes.
