The instruction you receive is only as good as the relationship you develop with your instructor, so be honest when you evaluate your ability, learning style, preferences and goals. The more you tell the resort staff about yourself, the better your chances of being matched with a compatible mentor. Keep in mind that experience often means expertise, and it's easy to spot the difference between a true pro and the college kid in a ski school uniform working for a free season pass. Finally, it's not expected, but if you enjoy your lesson don't forget to tip the instructor. For a multi-day class, students usually tip between $10 and $30; for a one-hour private, $20-$30; and for a full-day private, $100 or more.
