Timberline Lodge, OR, Sept. 20--Ski season is back. At least at Timberline Ski Area in Oregon it is. Saturday morning, Timberline opened for the 1999-2000 ski season with two lifts servicing 250 acres of skiing.

Sunny skies shined over the ski area both Saturday and Sunday, creating ideal snow conditions for the some 500 skiers who came out to cut their first turns of the millennium's final ski season.

"The snow conditions are as good as they've ever been for this time of year," reported Jon Tullis of Timberline Ski Area. "This year's snowpack was the best we've ever had. We're actually skiing on last years snow right now."

Timberline's two lifts, Magic Mile Express and Palmer Express, service the terrain park and the half pipe as well as the Palmer Snowfield, which is about 1,500 vertical feet long.

The ski area is open year-round, closing for only ten days each September for required lift maintenance.

Over the summer, Timberline hosts some of the worlds best skiers including members of the Canadian, U.S., and Swiss national teams as well as some of the nations top developmental camps. This time of year, Timberline caters to recreational skiers from Portland, manufacturers showing off their new fleet, and agro-skiers who want to get a jumpstart on the new season.

Timberline will operate daily from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM and offer lift tickets for $26.
