Worth a spot on your bucket list.

Talk about a sick day.

Any mountain that’s a current or former host of a Freeride World Tour is a mountain that belongs on your bucket list. Kirkwood, located 35 miles southwest of the Lake Tahoe resorts, is just such a place. The Cirque, site of the FWT competition in 2013, is permanently closed, but no worries, there are plenty of other adventures to be had.

Experts head straight up Chair 6 to The Wall, the iconic, steeply pitched ridgeline that the resort is known for, to test themselves on mandatory 20-foot airs and plentiful chutes. Kirkwood is also the happy recipient of the K Factor, a weather phenomenon that historically graces the 2,300-acre resort with the region’s best snow. Factor that in during your vacation planning.
