It was during one of the biggest storm cycles to ever hit Aspen Snowmass and we went out to shoot. So many frames of us disappearing into chest deep drifts had me thinking that doing vertical “dolphin” turns would be useful to get some air.

All the stars aligned during this cycle at Alyeska Resort—light Utah style blower snow consistently delivered with cold temps followed up with bluebird days. The perfect recipe to capture that feeling of a stellar Alaskan powder day.

It was a very memorable day heli-skiing with 20 new centimeters (about 8 inches) of snow and blue skies.

We chased a storm to Wolf Creek from Breckenridge and hit it just right with 2-3 feet of fresh, dry powder.

This was one of the only storms we had in last year’s record drought. I skipped work all week, but nobody else could, so I had to take the photo myself. I like it because you can clearly see the Sarah sticker I’ll always rep on my helmet. #celebratesarah

We had stayed up at Stark’s Nest (a hut on top of MRG) the night before as the snow was piling up. Coincidently, it happened to be the annual night of the year when ski patrol had a party up there and we were welcomed with pasta, meatballs, and Jagermeister. A lot better than the veggie wraps and PBRs we had packed.

That day was cold and the powder was the lightest and fluffiest I have ever skied. I’m laughing in this photo, and I’m having such a good time.

We were rewarded with some fun pockets of snow after a short traverse. Well worth the extra effort.

It was a nice powow day!

It had been a powder day and everything was pretty skied out at the end of the day. As we left the outpost to start our late afternoon sweep we both started to ski, and then we both stopped and looked at each other. I said, “Do you see what I see?” He smiled. What we saw was a completely untouched giant swath of powder surrounded by a completely tracked out run. I skied down, stopped, pulled my camera out and Ryan skied. I knew it was going to be a good shot. Sometimes you just know. We laughed and finished our sweeps. Just another day at the office.

I skipped watching the Broncos in the Super Bowl for bluebird pow. Great decision.

It was the second day of a cat-skiing trip. It dumped snow our whole ride up to the lodge on Jan. 20, and we were storm skiing on the Jan. 21 which was the day that Ryan was with the other group. The snow stopped, and the sun came out. The single greatest day of skiing I’ve ever had in my life.
