Big Sky is hosting a day full of games, food, and music. This exercise-filled day is complete with a 5K run or walk, a 10-mile mountain bike race, tennis, flag football, and disc golf. With the Howdy Pardner’s Fourth of July Parade, kids games, live music, a shootout, and a rodeo, Jackson Hole puts on a Fourth of July party unlike anyone else. The shootout is complete with cowboys, dangerous villains, and saloon girls, making for a true Western experience. Kids can enjoy a three-legged race, tug-of-war, balloon toss, and much more. No Independence Day is complete without live music and a party. At Mammoth, a block party July 3 features live entertainment, and a well-stocked beer garden. Finish out the weekend with a firework show over Crowley Lake. The 4th is also the last day for skiing at the resort, Mammoth still has a solid base so don’t forget skis with the sunscreen.
Skiing is not just a winter sport in Steamboat as jumpers compete in a 4th of July Nordic ski jumping competition. In typical cowboy fashion, start the day with a pancake feed and then stay to watch a bike parade, a cattle drive through the downtown streets, rodeo, block party, and fireworks.
Winter returns for the 4th of July weekend at Kirkwood; bring your skis because chairlifts will be operating for skiing. The weekend also includes lawn games, barbecue, and live music from the Kingtones. End the day with a fireworks show.
Head to Grand Targhee the day before Independence Day for the Annual WYDAHO bike race, kid race, fun run, and, most importantly, the after parties. This mountain bike race has expert, intermediate, and beginner heats, and a supplemental “bike toss” and BBQ afterward. All registration is day of.
Begin your day in Crested Butte with the 43rd annual, 8.6 mile Gothic Run Walk or Crawl and a pancake breakfast. After breakfast, enjoy the patriotic Fourth of July parade. If you need to cool down, check out the Wet Zone where fire trucks open up their hoses, but beware— you will get drenched. This year, the evening festival will feature the new Adventure Park, complete with a climbing tower and bungee trampolines. At dusk, the grand finale fireworks will commence, ending a perfect day.
