The Frisco BBQ Challenge is the largest meat-grilling event in Colorado. Winners are automatically entered into the American Royal BBQ, in Kansas City, the World Cup of barbecue. This year, they’ve added chef demonstrations, including one with Brian Malarkey of Top Chef, and a sauce tasting competition. On Friday and Saturday, don’t miss the pig races down Main Street.

Snowbird is celebrating Father’s Day with meat, beer, and, um, more beer. Their annual Father’s Day barbecue—formerly know as Grill on the Hill—is Sunday night, and the rest of the weekend is packed as well. Saturday is Snowbird’s 2nd annual Brewfest, featuring Utah’s (yes, Utah) best microbreweries. Best of all, you can take runs to balance out the pulled pork. Snowbird last day for skiing will be the 20th.

Kirkwood is reopening chairs 1, 2 and 6 to skiers for the weekend, and mountain bikers will have access as well. Saturday night is the annual Fire Department Barbecue. Local band, the Kingtones, will play and, in true 4th of July fashion, as soon as the sun goes down there will be fireworks.

West Virginia takes mass eating events seriously, and Blues, Brews, and BBQ is no different. Snowshoe’s Laura Parquette says there will be beer from local breweries, music from Ministers of Soul and other blues bands, and at least one whole roast pig.

“When we started doing this, it was unbelievably unique,” says Whistler’s Josh Kearns “There’s not a lot of barbecue in Canada.” The Canadian National Championships started out small in 1990, now, it’s the biggest barbecue festival in the Pacific Northwest. It takes place over three days, more than 40,000 people show up, and the winners are automatically entered in American Royal World Championships, in Kansas, where there IS a lot of barbecue. Visitors can sign up for a judging class, and then become official judges who get to sample all of the goods
