FLAINE, France (Jan. 14)

- The U.S. Ski Team's Casey Puckett (Aspen, CO) pulled in the third ski cross World Cup podium of his career, finishing second in Flaine on Wednesday.

"Casey just stuck to the game plan and each position he was in he did what we discussed," U.S. Ski Cross Head Coach Tyler Shepherd said. "He got lucky in a couple of the heats and even in the final with a couple guys crashing, but it's the way ski cross goes sometimes."

Tomas Kraus of the Czech Republic won the ski cross event and Eric Iljans of Sweden was third.

According to Shepherd, the course was somewhat challenging for the athletes.

"There were a couple features that were kind of awkward because of the speed and how it was sending you," Shepherd said. "Casey played it smart because the course had gotten so choppy and rutted. In the end we were happy with Casey's result."

In the women's races, Ophelie David of France won followed by Ashleigh McIvor of Canada in second and Karin Huttary of Austria in third.

Caitlin Ciccone (Littleton, NH) competed for the U.S. in her third ski cross World Cup, but did not make finals.

The Team now heads to Lake Placid, NY, for the Nature Valley Freestyle Cup ski cross competition on Jan. 19.

"We're looking forward to a much more flowing course with a lot more terrain that will challenge the skiers," Shepherd said. "We're excited to do a lot of rollers and a lot of transitions that the guys have to do that are more than just making giant slalom turns."

NBC will air the Nature Valley Freestyle Cup ski cross competition Sunday, Jan. 25 at 1:30 p.m. ET. Versus will air the Nature Valley Freestyle Challenge aerials competition that same day at 2:00 p.m. ET as well as the Nature Valley Freestyle Cup ski cross show on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 3:00 p.m. ET.
