Revelstoke, British Columbia, first developed as a transcontinental railroad boomtown in the late 1800s. It faded and became a sleepy logging town for the next 100 years. But last winter, Revelstoke Mountain Resort opened and the town's second boom officially hit. The master plan: develop the only ski resort in the world to offer lift, cat-, and heli-skiing right from the village, and over the next 15 years, develop lifts, a projected 10,000 acres of terrain, and the longest run in North America at 5,620 vertical feet. Never in ski bumming’s history have the lifties and unemployed powder hounds been rewarded for their behavior. But that’s just what’s happening starting October 5, when Canada’s Powder Highway contest begins. Just submit a YouTube video proving your ski bum stamina—the more nights spent in your VW drinking PBR wondering why skiing never works with having a girlfriend, the better. If the Canadians are keen on your bumming skills you will receive unlimited day tickets for three months to the Powder Highway’s ski resorts—including Red Mountain, Whitewater, Revelstoke, Kicking Horse, Panorama, Fairmont Hot Springs Resort, Kimberley Alpine Resort, and Fernie.

In addition, you receive 15 days of cat and heli skiing privileges at local operations, such as Island Lake Catskiing, Powder Cowboy, Great Canadian Heli-Skiing, Purcell Heli-Skiing, Retallack Resort, White Grizzly, Selkirk Wilderness Skiing, Highland Powder Skiing, Monashee Powder Snowcats, CMH Kootenay Heli-Skiing, Snowwater Heli-Skiing, Valhalla Powdercats, RK Heli-Ski, Selkirk Tangiers Heli-Skiing, Revelstoke Mountain Resort, and Big Red Cats.

Ten nights during the three months can be spent at hotel rooms along the Powder Highway. The most convincing of ski bums will also be rewarded with a car for three months and free gas (or as they say in Canada, petrol). If your resume looks strong (career highlights include non-showering hall of fame, acclaimed maximum duct tape usage on outerwear, years of singledom, and a strict diet comprised of beer and cafeteria grazing? Ketchup and saltine sandwiches?) or if you have never submitted a resume ever before, life just got peachier than the state of Georgia The winner will be flown to the Powder Highway Region, courtesy of Kootenay Rockies Tourism, to enjoy January 1-March 31 living it up as a ski bum superstar. These three months could make seasons of scrounging worthwhile.

Thank the following sponsors for answering your prayers: Tourism Fernie, Tourism Kimberley, Park Vacation Management, Revelstoke Accommodation Association,Prestige Hotel and Resort.
