Tragic news came from the Teton County Coroner early last night, January 19th. A body recovered from an avalanche on the southeast face of Pyramid Peak was identified as 30-year-old Jackson resident Jed Wesley Foster. Foster was riding alone in the area of the Tetons south of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.
The slide was witnessed close to noon and reported to authorities. A Search and Rescue helicopter was immediately dispatched to the area. Upon arrival, tracks were observed leading into the debris and during the course of the search SAR workers found a snowboard at the toe of the slide path and, ultimately, the body of the victim.
The Bridger Teton Avalanche Center reported avalanche danger to be “considerable” on January 19th.
We would like to express our deepest condolences to Foster’s family and friends.
