Gorrono Ranch – Telluride, CO
After a morning in the trees, sun and sip on the deck of Gorrono Ranch, a.k.a. “the beach.” Located midmountain under Lift 4, it was once a 19th-century Basque shepherding hut. The sheep are long gone, but skiers flock here for pork green chili or a brat—fine accompaniments to a Fat Tire microbrew and views of the Wilson Range.
Garibaldi Lift Co. Bar & Grill – Whistler, B.C.
In the middle of the action at the base of Whistler, Garibaldi is a three-ring circus of suds, skiers and “sex cheese.” Yes, the variation on cheese fondue is a must-try while enjoying a margarita on GLC’s huge three-sided patio.
Bear Mountain Lodge – Killington, VT
Stake out a chair on Bear Mountain’s deck to soak up the very essence of spring in the East. Order a local brew—a Long Trail Ale should do the trick—and watch the brave and the foolish navigate Outer Limits, one of the East’s steepest bump runs.
High Camp – Squaw Valley, CA
There’s nowhere in skidom quite like High Camp, the spa/pool/skating rink/museum/bar/restaurant located at the terminus of the cable car. Enjoy a cocktail on the deck at the Poolside BBQ and Umbrella Bar. If you stay past sundown, they’ll even turn the lights on so you can ski home.
