Aspen/Snowmass, CO., January 15, 2008— Indie rock band, Dinosaur Jr. will perform at the base of Aspen Mountain on Thursday, January 24 at 5:30 p.m. This FREE Bud Light Hi-Fi Concert will ramp up the energy as ESPN Winter X Games 12 rolls into Aspen/Snowmass Jan. 24-27.
Dinosaur Jr. emerged onto the alternative rock scene in the late 80s/early 90s, releasing songs like “Freak Scene, “Feel the Pain, and “Just like Heaven. With well-known peers including The Pixies, Sonic Youth and Nirvana, Dinosaur Jr. is known as a frontrunner in the alternative and indie rock genres that exist today.
In 2007 the band released Beyond, Dinosaur Jr.’s first album in a decade, with the original lineup of guitarist J Mascis, bassist Lou Barlow and drummer Murph.
“This is a perfect act to feature at our Bud Light Hi-Fi concert during Winter X Games, says Deric Gunshor, Aspen Skiing Company Senior Event Marketing Manager. “Dinosaur Jr. is going to blow everyone away and get town rocking to start the biggest weekend of the year.
The free performance will take place at the base of Aspen Mountain during X Games 12 along with a new Aspen/Snowmass event, the King of Quarters. This new invitational event will feature some of the world’s best male skiers and snowboarders competing under the lights for $30,000 in cash and prizes.
The King of Quarters takes place Friday, January 25 and Saturday, January 26, from 5 — 7 p.m. The quarterpipe is being constructed on Little Nell Run by the Aspen/Snowmass terrain park crew in partnership with Snow Park Technologies (SPT) and will be walking distance from Gondola Plaza.
The popular FREE Bud Light Hi-Fi Concert Series will also feature the southern-rock phenomenon North Mississippi Allstars in Snowmass on Sunday, February 17.
Additional FREE Bud Light Hi-Fi Concert Series shows will take place on March 23 in Snowmass and March 28 in Aspen. The Bud Light Spring Jam Core Party will feature longtime local favorite Super Diamond for a FREE concert in downtown Aspen on March 21.
Five outdoor concerts in Aspen and Snowmass, held during key events and peak weekends throughout the season. Blues Traveler played earlier this season and past seasons have featured The English Beat, Everclear, P.O.D., The Vandals, Big Head Todd and the Monsters and more.
