Grand Targhee Resort in Wyoming recently won a Silver Eagle award from Clif Bar for their waste reduction and recycling practices, making them a leader in waste reduction in the Greater Yellowstone Region. The sustainability signage above is just one of the 20+ recycling centers at the main plaza of the resort.

An inset of the sustainability signage serves as a reminder for skiers of Grand Targhee’s efforts to go green.

This high-profile recycling unit near the Targhee Lodge is located on the main steps leading up to the main plaza. Clif Bar also recognized Grand Targhee for “starting e-waste, food waste, and household hazardous waste recycling programs.”

Grand Targhee Resort employees spend a snowy day sorting through recycling. The resort’s waste reduction that has been recognized by Clif Bar was implemented by “eliminating disposable products in its restaurants and switching to bio-based compostable plastics.”

Baled cardboard is shown en-route to a recycling center. Clif Bar summed up its recognition of Grand Targhee’s recycling efforts with telling statistics: “All told, GTR reduced its waste stream by 4 percent from 2006 to 2007, and has a goal to reduce it 50 percent by 2010.”
