Separating your feet gives you a broader base of support and improves your balance. It also turns you into a two-footed skier instead of a skier who has too much weight on his or her outside ski.
The best strategy in any turn is to tip your skis up on their edges. That’s what makes them arc. But do that with the parts of you that are closest to the snow-your feet, ankles and legs.
Tilting your lower body will naturally cause your hips to move to the inside of the turn. You’re now in a strong stance that lets you resist the natural forces as you hold a solid edge. Let the tops of your shoulders stay level to create an angle between your lower and upper body.
You’ll feel more pressure against your outside ski at the end of a well-edged turn. If your shoulders are level, you can stay balanced even if your skis skid a little.
