Name: Amber Gale
Home hill: Snowbird, UT
Day Job: Marketing for a health insurance fraud prevention company.
What makes you qualified to test?: A background in ski racing for the Snowbird Sports Education Foundation and then University of Nevada Reno during college. I also competed on the big mountain circuit for a few years and now can be found coaching for Snowbird's race program. I've pretty much come full circle. Not to mention this is my seventh year ski testing so I know the ropes pretty well at this point.
Skiing background: Parents were married on skis and made sure we were skiing as soon as we could walk. I was racing by age 6 and didn't stop until I graduated from college. Still involved with my home team at Snowbird.
Favorite type of terrain: I like to ski fast fluid lines through all kinds of terrain. Of course the softer the better!
Ideal ski: I am really enjoying the rocker that is finding it's way into all types of skis but I'm loyal to the ski with around 100 under foot.
Favorite part of the Skiing mag ski test: All the amazing people it brings together year after year!
Funniest story from ski test (any year)?: Where would I begin, probably the time Billy Poole dropped all his test cards off the chair (any tester knows what a travesty this is).
What don't people know about the ski test?: It's quite regimented, with daily debriefings to make sure everything gets a fair shake.
Why should people trust the Skiing mag ski test?: We're just like the readers and want to know what the best skis are for the job.
Please translate the following phrase: Hafmeyjunum ekki skíði, þú kjánalegt manneskja!: Every man stew needs its bay leaf!
