Whistler Blackcomb has arguably more going on in the Summer than the Winter. From an epic mountain biking park with plenty of routes to choose from, to ZipTrek Ecotours, you¿ll be hard pressed to be bored. Feeling adventurous? Look into the river rafting tours, ATV tours, or Barely Legal Motorsports. Want to take it slow? Hit the Solarice Wellness Spa or get a few rounds of golf in. That is to say, if you think golf is mellow. Events in August include a Corvette car show (Aug 1-4), Campground “C”, a country-rock music festival (Aug 23), and the Taste of British Columbia Gala (Aug 3).

Kellogg, Idaho’s Silver Mountain positions itself as the Northwest’s summer fun headquarters. The Silver Rapids Indoor Waterpark facility located at the base of the gondola is the area’s newest draw, offering the Northwest’s only FlowRider stationary surf wave feature for both boogie boarding and stand-up surfing. The water park offers everything from body and tube slides, family rafting type slides and kiddie lagoons. However, the real attraction at Silver Rapids is Trestles Surfside Grill where you can order a cocktail and sit in a hot tub while you watch the action. You do have to stay at Silver’s base village accommodations to gain access to the water park, but the Morning Star Lodge has rooftop hot tubs, a workout room and spa facilities.

Looking for a real thrill? Drive one of the last great ski area access roads, ride a classic fixed-grip double chair, and then careen downhill at breakneck speeds on a Diggler. Digglers are mountain scooters specifically designed to scare the crap out of you. Feeling intimidated? Relax. Snowbowl offers less expensive “trial rentals” to see if you’re ready before hitting the trails. The Bowl also offers disc golf and lift-served mountain biking, if you’re interested in more traditional activities.

Sure, Mt. Bachelor in Bend, Ore. has USFS interpretive tours, scenic lift rides, a famous pro-shop (Mt. Bachelor Ski & Sport), and mid-mountain romantic dinners at Scapolo’s, but the serious summertime action at Bachelor? High alpine downhill disc golf. That’s right, downhill. The course ends at the bottom of the Pine Marten Express chair after nine holes for a total vertical drop of 1400 feet. That adds up to some big drives, or some really, really lost Frisbees.

Upcoming events at Mt. Bachelor include the Lava Launch at Mt. Bachelor, a disc golf tournament in the Steady Ed Tournament Series. (Aug. 23-24).
