Whether it's the X Games, the Filmfest, or the veritable fashion alley that is downtown Aspen, Glitter Gulch is no stranger to competition. Even the bartenders duke it out. Sure, the town has enough 'tude-heavy drink slingers to slake the thirst of an English soccer stadium. But who among them pours the best drink?

Check out all the drinks and how to make them in the slideshow below.

To settle that question, town officials recently gathered top bartenders, set them up at 39 Degrees Lounge, the patio bar at the Sky Hotel, and staged the third annual Aspen Cocktail Classic. The boozefest (held on September 30), works like this: From 5 to 7, five judges (two of whom were from Skiing) compare taste, presentation, and creativity—then the public shows up, plastic "sample cups are hoisted, and DJs crank up the turntables. This year, the Aspen (Cream)* Dream, an vodka-spiked orange-daquiri created by Cantina bartender Adam Malmgren, was crowned champion. Here's a rundown of this year's entries. Recreate the drinks in your own home, but take our advice: Don't try all 23 in one night.

French Alps based photographer and longtime Skiing contributor Christoffer Sjöström has a new 175-page hardcover coffee table photo book filled with stunning shots of Candide Thovex taken over the last 10 years. “Candide is one of the greatest pioneers within the world of skiing, and he was one of the riders who changed and turned the sport to what it is today,” says Sjöström. The book features a wide selection of lifestyle and action shots taken from 1999 to 2009 and interviews with top riders such as Tanner Hall, Jon Olsson, Simon Dumont, Sammy Carlson, and others talking about Candide. “This book is a showcase of my work and I chose to do it about one of the best riders I’ve worked a lot with during the past 10 years,” Sjöström says. “I really like these kinds of books myself and I had been toying with the idea for a few years. I didn't want to make a book of my random portfolio photos, but preferred to tell a story about one of the innovators of freestyle skiing. The book captures different themes that I thought have been important in his life as well as his career as a pro skier such as his home resort La Clusaz, Alaska, Candide invitational event, the X Games, his big injury and after.” The book does not have a U.S. distributor yet, so the easiest way to purchase the book is at thebookofcandide.com. The cost is 45 Euros ($62 US), shipping included. Take a look at the following slides for a peak at what is inside The Book Of Candide.
