Where to Ski in Tahoe: Heavenly

The biggest ski area in California, which also happens to stretch across the boarder into Nevada.

A lot of tourists go to Heavenly to say they’ve skied across the state line from Nevada to California. So while they’re busy taking photos of the border and the expansive views of Lake Tahoe that serve as the backdrop (which, we admit, is photo worthy), you get more untouched powder to yourself. Heavenly has 4,800 acres of skiable terrain, making it California’s largest resort. And the nightlife in South Lake Tahoe—from casinos to live music to dance clubs—outshines pretty much every other ski town in the U.S. The best places to ski? On a powder day, head to Mott and Killebrew canyons, steep shots with no easy way down. For more mellow laps, hit the cruisers off the Sky Express, which tops out at 10,040-feet and offers panoramic views.
