2022 4FRNT MSP 107

Taking top marks in both Playfulness and Forgiveness, the 4FRNT MSP 107 is always a staple for exceeding the expectations of testers with race and instruction experience. But the freeride and freestyle skiers take to this ski like a Rainbow trout to a Rocky Mountain river. The MSP 107 is really a shining example of when a new-school company makes a kick-ass all-mountain ski for both hard-core and more generalist skiers. “Nimble and stable in crud and bumps, solid and smooth on groomers,” notes tester Dustin Cook. “All around a very solid ski that would be good for a wide range of abilities.”

Built with a poplar wood core and Titanal laminate, the North American-built 4FRNT MSP 107’s construction is on the same level as many of the European skis in this category. The semi-cap ABS sidewall provides a higher level of forgiveness compared to full sandwich construction, a trait that testers rewarded with the highest marks in the Forgiveness category. Combined with a snappy rocker profile and shape, this ski is both one of the most fun in the category as well as the least punishing.

“I was surprised at how well it handled the crud and how quickly it adapted to being on a groomed run, tipped up on edge,” notes PSIA pro and veteran ski tester Michael Rogan. His sentiments were echoed by rookie tester Otto Gibbons: “Comfortable to stand on and charge down any face, while able to tone it down a notch for those after-lunch runs. Turn shape is right where you want it to be while offering adjustments in the middle of the turn.”

  • Strengths: Playfulness (1st in category), Forgiveness (1st)
  • Weaknesses: Hard-Snow Integrity (15th), Stability at Speed (12th)

More than one tester—and several from a variety of skiing backgrounds—found himself surprised by the agile, playful performance of the 4FRNT MSP 107. Just as long as they were kept at moderate speeds or used to slarve down steep terrain, these skis were a joy to ride at Taos. Despite a strong poplar wood core and layers of Titanal, however, the freeride oriented MSP 107’s speed limit was found very quickly by testers who tried to carve aggressively on hard snow.

STRENGTHS: Playfulness, Overall Impression

WEAKNESSES: Hard-Snow Integrity, Versatility
