2022 ARMADA DECLIVITY 82 TI

If you’re scratching your head wondering how American brand Armada ended up with an award-winning ski in the Carving category, well, it’s time you got acquainted with the Declivity series. Inspired by a directional big-mountain ski designed by Chamonix legend Tof Henry and partially developed by Todd Ligare, a pro freeskier with deep racing roots, Armada’s newest skis debuted last season and are shaking up the directional ski scene with a line of planks that absolutely shred on groomers and beyond.

The skinniest member of the line is the Declivity 82Ti. With a full caruba wood core, two sheets of Titanal, and articulated Titanal banding in the shovel, this ski is certainly a versatile option for skiers who prefer to carve but aren’t afraid of exploring the ski area beyond the groomers. The Declivity 82Ti might be out-muscled by brands with World Cup race roots, but that’s exactly what made it so appealing to testers. It’s easy to ski, easy to carve on, and has a massive sweet spot. “These skis blend olive oil smoothness with a light, energetic responsiveness,” writes tester Bob Gleason.

The Declivity 82Ti was notably soft compared to the rest of the Carving field, but it still topped the rest in Playfulness and tied two other skis for second place in the Quickness/Maneuverability column. The smaller, lighter skiers—or those with a light touch—got the most out of these skis in particular. “Anyone with a race background or a freerider who wants a frontside-specific ski will gain a new appreciation for how to tip early and hold across fall lines,” notes tester Matt Schiller.

  • Strengths: Playfulness (1st in category), Quickness/Maneuverability (T-2nd)
  • Weaknesses: Hard Snow Integrity (11th), Stability at Speed (11th)

Despite being shorter, narrower, and generally smaller compared to the other skis on the rack, the all-new Declivity 82 Ti from Armada punches well above its weight in terms of all-mountain frontside performance. Don’t count these skis out on a groomer day or during a dry spell—they can carve and perform at a level on-par with frontside skis from brands that make World Cup race skis. Plus they keep the playful, maneuverable soul Armada is best known for. Syrovatka: “Very strong ski. Perfect length and stiffness to allow any skier to have the best day.”

STRENGTHS: Quickness, Versatility

WEAKNESSES: Crud Performance, Playfulness
