The new Backland line was designed primarily for backcountry touring, though testers found the women’s Backland 107 also makes an approachable pow ski for the back bowls of the resort. Atomic’s HRZN Tip tech places a horizontal rocker in the nose of the ski, and testers agreed the increased surface area combined with the ski’s lightweight core promotes exceptional float. The one complaint: the tip tended to deflect in crud and at high speeds.

STRENGTHS: Flotation, Quickness

WEAKNESSES: Crud Performance, Stability at Speed
