2022 Blizzard Rustler 10

While the technology and shape of Blizzard’s Rustler line haven’t changed much over the past few years, it’s worth pointing out that the skis function extremely well for freeride-oriented all-mountain planks. And while the Rustler 10’s big brother took top honors in the Deep Snow category, the skinnier All-Mountain Wide entry provides more well-rounded adaptability to snow that isn’t quite soft. “Burly enough to drive down the fall line regardless of conditions,” writes tester Jon Sexauer. “And playful enough to slash and pop off side hits.”

Built with specifically-shaped Titanal underfoot and a wood core made with poplar, beech, balsa, and paulownia, the Blizzard Rustler 10 is by no means a ski for the weak. But with plentiful rocker plus unidirectional carbon inserts at both ends of the ski to reduce torsional rigidity in the shovel and tail, the ski keeps a playful demeanor under all that metal and wood horsepower. “Non-aggressive skiers might feel like it’s a little too much ski,” comments tester Nick Loomans. “But still a nice balance of energy and stability that feels very comfortable in all conditions and speeds.”

While testers thought the Rustler 10 lacked in the Flotation and Versatility categories compared to the rest of the field, they did give it high marks for Playfulness and Maneuverability, a few areas that Blizzard doesn’t always shine in. For skiers looking for a freeride ski that can handle strong legs, high speeds, and always having fun, the Blizzard Rustler 10 needs to be high on the list. “Just an excellent all-around wide ski,” says tester Drew Crosby, summing it up nicely.

  • Strengths: Playfulness (2nd in category), Quickness/Maneuverability (5th)
  • Weaknesses: Flotation (13th), Balance of Skills/Versatility (14th)

The freeride-rooted Rustler 10 was a hoot for testers at Taos this year, taking on wide-open bowls and tight, steep tree runs with confidence nearing on reckless abandon. With ample rocker in the front and back, Carbon Flipcore DRT sandwiching a wood core, and uni-directional carbon inserts in the tip and tail, the Rustler 10 is a firework of a ski that left testers stoked. Not the best on groomers, but who needs those, anyway?
