The Dynastar M-Free 108 is one of the standout freeride skis of the year, beloved by skiers who treat their powder like a creamy schmear on a freshly toasted bagel. It’s responsive, forgiving, and most enjoyed by strong, aggressive skiers who like hauling down the fall line (I’ve had this ski in my quiver since the iteration Dynastar released in 2020. I travel with it often because it is versatile enough to handle the unknown). The M-Free 108 is a delightful choice if you can only have one ski. It stays on edge across the hardpack and floats plenty even at 108mm underfoot. Just check my Instagram from March 2021.

At the gear test in Sun Valley, and during additional testing in spring conditions around Salt Lake City, testers found the Dynastar M-Free 108 to be responsive, even in wetter, heavier snow. For that reason, it also scored high in Flotation and Versatility.  “If you’re willing to do the work, this could be a fun East Coast storm chaser,” said tester Luke Larsen, who owns The Lifthouse Ski Shop in Utah. “Otherwise, it will feel at home in soft or firm snow found out West. The Dynastar M-Free 108 is amazing through soft bumps and holds a great edge. With its tip rocker, it floats like a dream in the deepest snow you can find. It’s such an easy ski to pick up on. Instantly, I knew what this ski wanted to do.”

We noted the consistent flex makes for large radius turns, and many appreciated the predictability and controllable nature of this ski. It scored high marks from directional skiers who gravitate towards a ski that’s solid underfoot but still want to spin, flip, and get airborne from time to time.

The poplar wood core is shored up with a layer of Titanal under the mounting plate, providing added stability at speed and a trustworthy platform for hard-charging powder mania. Full sidewall construction, meaning full-length vertical edges from tip to tail, help maximize grip, balance, and power. You won’t waste any energy gained as you go in and out of the turn.

“If you want to love skiing more, this ski is for you,” summed up Larsen.
