2022 DYNASTAR M PRO 99

The Dynastar M-Pro 99 was described by nearly every tester as being resoundingly smooth at Solitude. Thanks to its maneuverable and forgiving nature, this directional all-mountain ski pulled no punches and did everything skiers asked it to do without any fuss. “I have to thank this ski for trusting me and throwing me a favor by holding up to the task of first run, dust on crust, flat light, cold legs, and skiing under the chair,” writes a captivated Matt Schiller. “It stayed true and sure, rode up and over and found the ground. I put it straight down the gut and we survived!”

Although the ski is unchanged from last year, testers were certainly more comfortable with it thanks to a changed playing field. In fact, the M-Pro 99 moved up ten places from last season at this year’s SKI Test, which is no small feat. A major part of that is this ski’s level of Forgiveness, a quality that’s hard to find in the All-Mountain category as the vast majority of entries have more metal than a Russian military parade. “You may never have the best car or the nicest house, but you can buy the best ski ever,” comments tester Mark Elling (who must assume Jeff Bezos doesn’t read SKI Magazine).

The Dynastar M-Pro 99 does have some metal. The full Titanal plate underfoot tapers off towards the tip and tail of the ski in the upper layer in a perfectly forgiving way. The resulting shape looks like it could be in a military parade, which is why the brand calls it “Rocket Frame Ti.”

Dynastar also integrates polyurethane with poplar wood in the core of the M-Pro 99, which is one of the reasons why these boards are so smooth. “All the way around the mountain, these skis were easy and predictable in all terrain and all snow conditions,” says tester Jon Sexauer. “Arcing long radius turns across groomed terrain was an absolute delight, making shorter skid turns off a groomer into the crud and moguls was enjoyable. The skis performed better when driven a bit harder, but were just fine being ridden without as much input.”

  • Strengths: Quickness/Maneuverability (3rd in category), Forgiveness (3rd)
  • Weaknesses: Hard Snow Integrity (8th), Flotation (5th)

The new directional Dynastar M Pro 99 was especially appreciated by the ski instructor testers. The shape and construction are ideal for intermediate and advanced skiers who need a ski to help them improve to the next level and beyond. All of the testers praised the M Pro’s liveliness all over Taos Ski Valley. With just enough Titanal to stay damp at higher speeds and a poplar/PU blended core, the M Pro 99 really allowed testers to put the pedal to the metal.
