2022 J skis The Masterblaster

The J Skis Masterblaster walked the line between being a great all-around choice for some testers and a bit too “in the middle” for others. For the testers that did agree with this ski, it was lively, maneuverable, and fun at a variety of speeds in different terrain. “Super easy and fun to ski,” comments tester Dustin Cook. “Well balanced, forgiving, doesn’t have a huge personality, but tough to find many complaints.”

J Skis notes that the Masterblaster is an all-mountain freeride ski that is designed for “…railing icy groomers and blasting through powder and chop,” but testers found it was happiest at more moderate speeds in these conditions and more. But with a full maple wood core and two strips of Titanal, testers were still happy to gun it on these skis, too. “A good amount of energy and stability that performs well and holds its own in this category,” notes tester Nick Loomans. “Good all-mountain ski for an aggressive advanced skier.”

While commonly stereotyped as a “new school” brand, the Masterblaster proved at Solitude that kids of all ages can enjoy riding these planks. In fact, the older testers in particular found them to be more enjoyable than some of the young guns, especially with a relaxed athletic stance and the ability to drive a ski without overpowering it. “These have a great blend of claw-like edge hold and easy style in the soft snow,” writes veteran tester Bob Gleason. “They transition with ease from short to long turns, soft to hard snow, and steep to shallow slopes.”

  • Strengths: Quickness/Maneuverability (11th in category), Playfulness (12th)
  • Weaknesses: Flotation (22nd), Hard Snow Integrity (18th)
