2022 K2 Mindbender 99Ti

If there is one ski in the top ten of the All-Mountain ski category that summarizes what an All-Mountain ski should be, the K2 Mindbender 99Ti might be that ski. It’s not too much of anything, but still has enough of everything to show the vast majority of skiers in North America a good time every day. “These are a nicely balanced everyday driver,” notes tester Bob Gleason. “It is one tool for every condition. The ski has enough core strength to tackle the hard pack but can smooth out the butter in the soft.”

But if there is one characteristic that truly stands out for the Mindbender 99Ti, it’s the high level of quickness and maneuverability blended with just the right amount of forgiveness. This makes the ski perfectly suited for strong intermediates looking to breakthrough in more technical terrain, skiers who just want to cruise but aren’t afraid to spice things up from time to time, and advanced and expert skiers looking for a reliable ski for all conditions. “Fun and playful yet stable,” notes tester Nick Loomans. “Easy to turn and maneuver, making the ski versatile in all conditions.”

With a fairly dense core of maple and aspen wood between a full sheet of Titanal below and K2′s modified Titanal Y beam above, the Mindbender 99Ti still packs some guts that are sure to entertain the strongest of skiers. Much of the stability comes from the oversized polyurethane sidewalls—which K2 calls Powerwall sidewalls—located near the binding that add extra rigidity to the ski underfoot. Add in a do-it-all sidecut and rocker profile, and the Mindbender 99Ti can indeed do it all for a lot of skiers. “Good all around the mountain,” comments tester Todd Casey. “Still skied well when conditions weren’t primo.”

  • Strengths: Forgiveness (5th in category), Quickness/Maneuverability (8th)
  • Weaknesses: Hard-Snow Integrity (13th), Stability at Speed (11th)

K2 Mindbender 99Ti – 2021 Men’s Frontside Ski Review

The K2 Mindbender 99Ti keeps a maple/aspen core sandwiched between two sheets of Titanal (the modifi ed upper layer puts metal over the edges in the shovel but not over the tail’s edges). While tester comments about the 99Ti were all positive, they varied on exact reasons why this ski stands out. Solid ski for intermediates looking to break through? Check. Stable crud destroyer? Check. Can make different turn shapes with a forgiving tail? Check. Damp at speed? Check. A true jack-of-all trades.

STRENGTHS: Stability at Speed, Hard-Snow Integrity

WEAKNESSES: Forgiveness, Playfulness
