During the socially-distanced daily debriefs during SKI Test, there was a palpable buzz among many of the testers about how fun the new K2 Reckoner 92 is. Many claimed it’s the type of ski that would turn teenagers into life-long skiers, and make life-long skiers feel like teenagers again. “An amusement park with bindings,” notes veteran tester Bob Gleason. “A giggle fest and, at speed, they were solid enough for security.”
The K2 Reckoner 92’s top rankings for Playfulness, Quickness/Maneuverability, and Forgiveness hits the sweet-spot for the majority of recreational skiers all over North America. Add in a hard-to-beat price, and this ski is likely to be at the top of many wish lists this holiday season. Best of all, the ski’s nature is to grow with skiers as they develop stronger habits both in the terrain park and in tougher terrain. “Pretty much perfect for a value ski,” notes tester Dustin Cook. “Honestly a lot of fun at slow speeds in all conditions.
K2 derives the fun and stability of the Reckoner 92 from an aspen veneer core and triaxial braid laminate. There is gradual rise on both ends of this twin-tipped ski, which provides all the playfulness and a shortened effective edge for quickness. Yet another ski that proves you don’t need the biggest, longest, burliest planks to have a good time. “Short, whippy, and nimble, and not cumbersome at all,” continues Cook. “Solid at all speeds, slidey turns were fun and easy, and even at high speed I could push on the things and they held up.”
- Strengths: Playfulness (1st in category), Quickness/Maneuverability (1st)
- Weaknesses: Stability at Speed (12th), Crud-Performance (11th)
- Value Score: 8.44
