The VTA 98 exceeded our expectations for both uphill capabilities and overall downhill performance. Featuring a lightweight wood core, a carbon tip with rocker, and a very effective ICE.OFF topsheet that nearly eliminated snow on top of the ski, the VTA 98 won tester accolades for its skiability on corn and refrozen crud. With a versatile width, tapered sidecut, and damp feel, it might not weigh as much as a traditional Völkl, but it certainly handles like one.
