Pro In a ski built for speed and edge-grip on hard snow, K2’s MOD dampening system comes into its own. Like other skis in the Apache series, the Crossfire, with its wood core and twin sheets of metal, gets a layer of elastomeric material atop the core, tip to tail, plus an extra MOD Monic dampening module—think 14-gram zinc paperweight—placed on the forebody precisely where it best dampens any remaining disruptive vibrations. The result is better edge grip. But like its wider brother, the Recon, the Crossfire is more about ease and forgiveness than power and precision. That’s refreshing in a category of demanding taskmasters that can be tiresome to stay on top of all day. Casey called it "easy to turn, fun to turn." Con Lacks the hard-snow precision of others in the category.
