Less wide than the full-fat VJJ, the 2017 Armada TSTw, still offers plenty of flotation in deep snow-and as much width as most women care for or need. With less rocker in the tail than the VJJ or the similarly-wide ARW 96, it offers stronger, more secure turn finishes than either. And it’s quicker to edge and more versatile on hardpack than the VJJ.
It’s part of Armada’s Women’s Deepest Series, which includes women’s-specific models of the JJ and the TST. Both are powder-optimized twin-tips. Both feature Armada’s famous EST (Elf Shoe Technology) shape, in which both the tip and tail are tapered (ie., the widest points of the ski, fore and aft, are moved closer to the foot), for a looser, smearier, easier-to-pivot feel in powder-good for last-second line adjustments and emergency speed checks. Both are built on Armada’s Hybrid Ultra-Light Core, made of airy, lightweight woods, with sections of denser wood strategically placed underfoot for extra strength and durability. Both are metal-free, for lively performance and lightweight feel.
Armada, founded in 2002 by a collective of big-name freestyle athletes, is based in Costa Mesa, Calif. -J.C.
