The 2017 Armada VJJ is still one of the widest women’s skis on the market, ready for the deepest powder with a 112- to 116-mm waist width (depending on length).
Armada says it’s a bit softer-flexing in 2017, though the construction is the same.
It’s rockered tip and tail, for powder flotation, shock-absoroption, and easy-to-skid turn finishes, with traditional camber underfoot for carvability on hardpack.
It’s part of Armada’s Women’s Deepest Series, which includes women’s-specific models of the JJ and the TST. Both are powder-optimized twin-tips. Both feature Armada’s famous EST (Elf Shoe Technology) shape, in which both the tip and tail are tapered (ie., the widest points of the ski, fore and aft, are moved closer to the foot), for a looser, smearier, easier-to-pivot feel in powder-good for last-second line adjustments and emergency speed checks. Both are built on Armada’s Hybrid Ultra-Light Core, made of airy, lightweight woods, with sections of denser wood strategically placed underfoot for extra strength and durability. Both are metal-free, for lively performance and lightweight feel.
Armada, founded in 2002 by a collective of big-name freestyle athletes, is based in Costa Mesa, Calif. -J.C.
