The Air is built for value and easygoing performance for novice women who stick mostly to the groomers. Unlike the other models in the Affinity series, it's a foam-core cap construction with no sidewalls, making it light, soft on edge, easy to skid, and affordable. It's sold with a light, affordable 10-DIN Lithium binding. The Affinity series is a four-model collection of women's frontside system skis-all sold with bindings. Ranging in width from 84 down to 74 mm, they're more groomer-oriented than the wider Vantage series skis, but still intended for occasional off-piste excursions. They're also generally more value-oriented than the Vantages, with more economical constructions suited to less demanding skiers. The top two models (Storm and Sky) are built on lightweight wood cores for integrity and durability. The top three models (Storm, Sky, and Pure) all have partial metal reinforcement for added calm and stability at high speeds. All except the low-end Air are built using Atomic's Step-Down Sidewall construction: higher sidewalls underfoot for solidity and edge grip; lower sidewalls topped by cap construction tip and tail for softer torsional rigidity and more forgiving performance. All are rockered in the tip only, to smooth shocks and loosen up turn initiations, and all feature Atomic's Women's Flex Zone technology, in which the core is thinner in the tip and tail to promote a round flex pattern. Other women-specific design features include a V-shaped tapering of the sidecut (the extra-narrow tail is easy to break free for skidded turn finishes) and a slight lifting of the heel designed to reduce back and quadriceps strain and better suit a woman's physiology.
