The 2017 Atomic Infamous, which returns unchanged except for a new graphic, is similar in design to the Punx park ski. It's a barely noticeable 2 mm wider than the Punx, with a slightly tighter, carvier sidecut and a bit more rocker tip and tail. It'll sell for about $100 less (just $350 in many shops). Atomic's Park Series includes two models with similar waist widths, the 84-mm Punx and 86-mm Infamous. Both feature Atomic's Stomp Sidecut, with longer radius in the tip and tail (to prevent surprising hookiness on takeoffs and landings) and tighter radius in the midsection (for carving into big hits). And they're optimized for switch riding, with symmetrical sidecut and rocker. Both models are built on wood cores, for durability and responsiveness, and both feature Atomic's Step-Down Sidewall construction: higher sidewalls underfoot for solidity and edge grip; lower sidewalls topped by cap construction tip and tail for softer flex and torsional rigidity and more forgiving performance. Both the Punx and Infamous feature extra durable edges designed to withstand the beatings of park use. Atomic, founded in 1955, is based in Altenmarkt im Pongau, Austria (near Salzburg), where the majority of its skis are made. Along with sister brands Salomon and ArcTeryx, it is a division of Amer Sports of Finland, which acquired it in 1994. Its U.S. headquarters are in Ogden, Utah. -J.C.
