If Wildcat is the bruiser of the Mount Washington Valley, Attitash is the soother. The smallest resort in the American Skiing Co. chain, it’s known for its grooming, snowmaking and wide-open blue-square cruisers. One steep-seeking reader complained: “There’s too much grooming, not enough bumps.”

Attitash draws a lot of families, especially with lively North Conway just 10 minutes away. The lift system is constantly being upgraded (the new Kachina triple chair joins the high-speed quad on Bear Peak) and a new beginner trail, Wandering Skis, now provides beginners with a route from the summit.

What’s New The 143-room Grand Summit Hotel (completed last March); new triple chair; new beginner trail from summit.
Medals Silver Snow Quality, Grooming, Terrain
High/Low Rank Grooming (24); Expert Terrain (58)
Don’t Miss Strolling the mile-long pedestrian walkway in quaint Jackson. Pop into the crafts shops, slip on a pair of ice skates and spin around the pond or stop for a drink at the Wildcat Tavern.
Reader Remarks “One of the most improved mountains in New England.” “Expensive and the weather doesn’t always cooperate.”
