The Black Diamond Element is the female equivalent to the men’s AMPerage. It’s designed to be a playful, soft-snow-oriented ski. It’s been redesigned for 2013-14 and now features full sidewall-sandwich construction, which should give it a measurable improvement in hard-snow performance over the previous Element models with cap-construction. Full tip and tail rocker help it float in the pow and contribute to the loose, playful feel in the Element. It’s part of BD’s Big Mountain series of skis built for big lines, deep snow, and a more lift-, cat-, heli-serviced downhill experience. Like all BD skis – except in the Tour series – the Megawatt is built with the company’s 3D CNC wood core – a milling technique that reduces weight without sacrificing performance. Its poplar core is designed for strength and pop. Pre-preg fiberglass layers strengthen the ski without adding excess weight. All of Black Diamond’s skis are being built in a new, state-of-the-art, company-owned factory in China.
