Bluehouse keeps the Monarch relatively narrow and light for backcountry touring purposes. With tip and tail rocker (and taper) and zero camber underfoot, it’s still made to float (and slash) in deep snow, but it weighs in at a manageable eight pounds, 10 ounces per pair. It’s a bamboo-core, metal-free laminate construction. Bluehouse, established in 2007, is located in Salt Lake City, where it builds some of its skis and all of its prototypes in a downtown factory/warehouse. Sales are online-only (bluehouseskis.com). It collaborates with local artists on topsheet graphics.
