The Explore 4 is the most beginner to intermediate-focused ski in the Explore series, coming in slightly shorter sizes (144 – 168 cm) and holding slightly different technology. Express Flex is designed for edge grip and more fluid transitions between turns, intended to be a little more forgiving than other Explore models. Early Rise Rocker lifts the tip and tail slightly up and off the ground, designed to maneuver through powder and other various conditions. Furthermore, with the tip and tail rockered, less edge is making contact with the snow, designed for responsiveness and minimized turning effort. Comprex Woodcore integrates light, compressed wood in the middle of the ski, designed to decrease weight and increase responsiveness. Similar to the Explore 6, however, this ski has Full Power Cap construction, which is lightweight and designed to make turn initiation and execution easier. Also shared with the Explore 6 is its Fiberglass construction, which integrates, you guessed it, fiberglass throughout the ski, designed to produce a smooth flex pattern that’s easy to bend while maintaining stability. The Explore series focuses on all mountain skis intended to rip on any terrain. Each ski is relatively similar in terms of dimensions, ranging from just 70 – 76 mm, but they also each have a variety of technology that sets them apart from one another. If you like to ski a little bit of everything but tend to stick to groomers and hardpack for the most part, this is one of Elan’s best series to offer you. Elan, based in Begunje na Gorenjskem, Slovenia, was founded in 1945. Its U.S. headquarters are in West Lebanon, N.H.
