The Explore 8 has the same dimensions as the Explore 10 Ti, with a 125 mm tip, 76 mm waist, and 104 mm tail. However, its Fiberglass construction sets itself apart, integrating, you guessed it, Fiberglass throughout the ski, designed to produce a smooth flex pattern that's easy to bend while maintaining stability. It also shares plenty of other technology with other models in the series. Waveflex technology, in which the top of the ski from the core up has a series of structural waves, is designed to make the ski stiff laterally yet still supple-flexing longitudinally. (Think corrugated cardboard: easy to bend in one direction, rigid in the other). PST sidewalls use cap construction to hold internal elements together, designed to provide the ski with a balance of power and playfulness. Dual Woodcore integrates a wooden stringer (strip of wood) above each edge, designed for stability and edge grip, and Parabolic Rocker lifts the tip and tail slightly up and off the ground, designed to maneuver through powder and other various conditions with a shaped sidecut for normal carving turns. With the tip and tail rockered, less edge is making contact with the snow, designed for responsiveness and minimized turning effort. The Explore series focuses on all mountain skis intended to rip on any terrain. Each ski is relatively similar in terms of dimensions, ranging from just 70 - 76 mm, but they also each have a variety of technology that sets them apart from one another. If you like to ski a little bit of everything but tend to stick to groomers and hardpack for the most part, this is one of Elan's best series to offer you. Elan, based in Begunje na Gorenjskem, Slovenia, was founded in 1945. Its U.S. headquarters are in West Lebanon, N.H.
